Okay, if you use the internet, we’re sure you’ve heard to stop using Internet Explorer as your default browser. Maybe you’ve wondered why and kept using IE instead. Sorry, but it really is time to retire Internet Explorer, and here’s why.
Internet Explorer isn’t supporting new web standards
Okay, in simplest terms, this means that Internet Explorer is not part of modern browser testing. Yes, this matters even if you’re not a website developer.
When you use IE as your default browser, everything looks a little wonky. Maybe your font sizes are off, or there are pictures that don’t show up where they should. The site may even look broken!
But what usually ends up happening is Internet Explorer is to blame for the issues, not the website. When Internet Explorer first came out in 1995, the internet was incredibly different than what it’s like today!
In 1995:
- The postage stamp was only 32 cents
- Michael Jordan returned to the NBA and ended his retirement
- OJ Simpson was found innocent
- eBay was started
- Popular films that came out in ’95 include Jumanji, Braveheart, Toy Story, Apollo 13, and Pocahontas
- We were listening to musicians like Pearl Jam, Hootie and the Blowfish, Soundgarden, and Sister Hazel
- Bill Clinton was president
The point here is Internet Explorer is just a little bit dated. Sure, there have been extensions and updates that came out to make it better, especially in recent years.
But you know it’s time to retire Internet Explorer as your default browser when Microsoft’s own Chris Jackson says it’s time!
Switch to another browser like Google Chrome
Hopefully, you’re starting to realize it’s time to retire Internet Explorer, once and for all. But what should you use instead? For the highest security and latest updates, Google Chrome is a smart choice. We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: Google runs the world. And it’s no coincidence at all that Google Chrome is one of the best browsers out there.
One of the reasons Google Chrome is so popular is it’s easy to use. It has a clean and simple interface that makes it easy to find what you’re looking for. Another reason why you should consider Google Chrome is its customizability.
You can add extensions, change the theme of your browser, and make Chrome your own. For developers, Chrome is the jackpot, since they released a large amount of the source code for the web browser, called Chromium.
This has enabled developers to tweak, modify, and change Chrome in such a way that it’s more accessible for Mac OS and Linux operating systems. You really can’t say that about Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.
