We are happy to announce the launch of the new Discover Downtown Westbrook website launch. This project has been a collaboration with Phil Spiller (board president), the DDW promotions committee, and various Westbrook businesses.
The group is hoping to showcase what Westbrook has been doing lately and what they offer as a city you can visit in southern Maine. The new website is a step forward for businesses, restaurants, things to do as well as the river feature in downtown Westbrook.

A new restaurant finder and map
In collaboration with The 207 Foodie’s Sarah Gelber, we have the most comprehensive list of Westbrook restaurants available thanks to our new restaurant finder. There is also a food map for people wishing to engage in the main street corridor area also known as Rudy Vallee Square.
This is home to both Portland Pie, Legends Rest, and The Frog & Turtle. Westbrook has many incredibly high-quality restaurants that people should know about. Many of these restaurants are even outside of Main Street like Lenny’s!
If you haven’t been (and you should) Lenny’s is a food and music establishment owned and operated by Bill Umbell, former owner of the Empire in Portland. Come for the food, stay for the entertainment!
Additionally, check out Blazes Burgers on Main Street across from Riverbank park founded by owner Alex Stone. The restaurant finder also mentions the 2 local craft brewing facilities Mast Landing and Yes Brewing. Whether you love sour beers or want to enjoy an IPA, both breweries are serving up local craft beers you’ll love!
A new focus on doing things in Westbrook
With the changes in the river coming and the removal of the dam, we have exciting things coming to this part of the Presumpscot River! You will soon see this area as a recreation hub with kayaks and other activities happening aside from the river.
After some recreation on the river (hello tubing on a hot day!) hit up one of our craft breweries for some outstanding local beer.
Don’t forget to stop by award-winning Black Dinah Chocolatiers, conveniently located right next to Westbrook’s Portland Pie Co. location for some of the best chocolate you’ll ever taste!
Whether you love truffles, vegan chocolate, or you need a gift for that special someone, Black Dinah has everything you’ve been looking for, and maybe even a few things you didn’t know you needed. This is some of the best chocolate you will ever taste in your life.
There is also planning that’s happening for regular outdoor music events coming in the fall of 2020 and into the summer of 2021.
Discover Downtown Westbrook will be working together with James Tranchmontagne and city employees to make outside music in Westbrook a reality. This is something that’s really exciting and we can’t wait to bring this to the people of Westbrook!
Events of Westbrook
Discover Downtown Westbrook has created three main events. Run The Ridge, Feast of the Falls, and WinterFest are the three biggest events put on by the organization.
Events have been canceled due to COVID-19 in 2020 but the group expects to bring these events back in full force. Keep an eye out for information regarding Run The Ridge in October as this might still happen.
Discover Downtown Westbrook is Maine’s 10th Main Street community. The organization was formed as the Downtown Westbrook Coalition in November 2014 as a Downtown Network community and received its official Main America Street accreditation from the Maine Downtown Center on November 9, 2017.
On that evening, their name changed to Discover Downtown Westbrook to show we are more action-oriented. They use the Four-Point Approach framework created by the National Main Street Center, which was established by the National Trust in 1980.
This national group has a proven successful record at downtown revitalization, with thousands of volunteer-driven organizations all around the country.
With this new website launch, we couldn’t be more excited to show off the many things that make Westbrook such a great place to live! Want to join Discover Downtown Westbrook? Contact us to find out how you can get involved!
